The flood of 2011

 

North Bennington, like most of Vermont, sustained heavy flooding from Tropical Storm Irene on August 28, 2011. The Village escaped with little damage, but the high water flows were unprecedented in living memory.

The 40-second video embedded at left shows the falls at the Prospect Street bridge several hours after the peak discharge.

Below are a graph and a table showing data from the Henry Bridge monitoring station. The flows in the Walloomsac River on August 28, at peak, were higher than any recorded during the past 80 years.
