The schematic plan above shows the potential location of a hydroelectric generating station next to the fire department, on Paran Creek, in North Bennington.
On March 16, 2017, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) amounced that it had accepted a preliminary application for a hydro generator adjoining the fire station. The Village has supported the application, which was developed by Bennington College students working with local hydro developer, Bill Scully. A proposal to place another turbine at the Lake Paran dam has not moved forward.
